The "Hard Core" Camping Trip

Hello, this is Luke! I have made my own blogger account to make it easier to post on here and hopefully I will be able to post fairly often. Anyway, today I am going to tell you about our (mine and Caleb's) camping trip that we took on friday. We were trying to be "hard core", but I guess compared to some people, we weren't really that "hard core". We did d something we had never done before though.
1. We built our own tent. This is something that most people would not do because it takes time and if you don't do it right it can get uncomfortable. But it is cheaper to build your own tent and you can "customize" it to your needs. For instance, me and Caleb needed a small tent that was easy to keep warm and held heat well. So we made our tent small, doubled the tarps, and closed off one end. I think is is better to use commercial tents in the summer though because they make it easier to keep the skeeters out. If you have ever slept in a tent with mosquitos, you know what I am talking about. It is not fun!
2. We cooked 2 meals over and open fire. It was a mess but everything tasted good. We had canned chili for super. It cooked really fast in the can. all we had to do was take the top off and sit it over the fire and the when it started bubbling, eat! Breakfast was even worse. We were going to have eggs and bacon and biscuits and coffee. We started with the bacon. It got crispy real fast, so we took it out of the pan. Well I didn't think anything of it at the time, but I had left the pan on the fire. Well I grabbed the biscuits and turned around and our frying pan was on fire! The bacon had left about a quarter inch of grease in the bottom of the pan, and the fire was licking up around it. POOF! grease fire. This was the first big mistake. If we had not lost all our grease in the fire, our biscuits would not have burned. But, we did lose our grease and and the biscuits burned black as night and crunchy on the outside and still gooey on the inside. The eggs turned out the best because Caleb found a little scrap of bacon left in the container. We were able to grease our pan, and the fire had died down so the grease didn't catch on fire. We scrambled us up couple of home grown right off our farm eggs and added a little tony's to it, and man, them was some good eggs!! I never realized how good eggs would be with a little bit of smokey flavor.
3. We spent the night in a cold, semi low temperature for this time of the year, in this area. It was supposed to be about 32 degrees. The actual temperature, 27! We both stayed warm though. I woke up with frost on my hat and frost on the foot of my sleeping bag but for the most part, I was nice and warm.
It was great. We both had a good time and hope to do it more and more often. The next trip we will hopefully be going down to the creek to camp. I think our cuzz will be coming with us so that will be fun.
P.S. We hope to make a movie about our camping trip and post it on youtube. We will let you know and give you the link when we do.
